The Department of Public Examinations (DPE) was established on 1st September 1989 under Ministry of Education. The main role of DPE is to organize and conduct National and International Examinations. In addition, services related to examinations are provided by DPE. Examination center’s at different locations of Maldives are established under DPE.

The Department of Inclusive Education (DoIE) was established on 18th November 2028 under the Ministry of Education. The main role of DoIE is to ensure that children with disabilities have the opportunity to develop to their full potential. The department also develops policies, programs, and standards related to inclusive education and provide training for teachers and administrators to build a more inclusive learning environment. DoIE aims to transform schools in the Maldives into centers of education that provides for all children regardless of their backgrounds and abilities.

Quality Assurance Department (QAD) was established in 24th February 2015 by a presidential decree as a Department under the Ministry of Education. The department is mandated to set quality standards, and to monitor the quality of education in Maldives. QAD is committed to assuring educational excellence for all Maldivians.

National Institute of Education

The National Institute of Education (NIE) was established on 6th October 1976 under the Ministry of Education. The main role of NIE is to provide necessary research and technical assistance to help formulate educational policies and to identify changes in the national curriculum and develop curriculum accordingly, compile text books, and provide technical assistance for curriculum implementation. In addition, trainings are planned for school leadership and teachers to improve the quality of teachers on a permanent basis.
