The School was established on 23 March 1970 named as Mukuthabunnoor under the leadership of former Island Chief, Almaruhum Mr.Hussain Hassan. On 10 September 1981 the school was renamed Maaungoodhoo School. In 2003 the school was upgraded as a Secondary School. The 55 year old Community school became a registered Government School on 1 August 2005. The school provides the basic educational needs of a society Maaungoodhoo, where 256 students are enrolled. Students are aged from four to eighteen years. A large range of special programs provide a holistic approach to diverse and individually designed educational programs.
