School Introduction

Maakurathu School was found in 1970 by Mohamed Yoosuf Kaleyfaanu, in the name of ‘Dhigumadharusaa’. The foundation was laid on 1969 and the school was officially inaugurated in 1970. The school was renamed Maakurathu School on October 20, 1999. Maakurathu School was registered as a government school on April 19, 2005, and until then the school was run by the citizens of the island. Below is the list of names that the school had throughout the years. Classes were conducted upto 7th class. After the start of primary education on 1990, grade classes were established from grade 1 to 6. Grade 7 was established in 1999 after the introduction of pre-7 in 1998, this laid the foundation for secondary education, which was established in Grade 8 in 2003. Grade 9 and Grade 10 was established on 2004 and 2005, respectively. O' Level exams were held at the school on 2005. The school began teaching A Levels on 2017. The official document issued by the Ministry of Education states school anniversary day as November 20, 1979.
