In 1975, a school named ‘Makthabul Hudha’ was registered with the then-Ministry of Education, marking the formal start of education on the island. Notable teachers included Abdul Gadhir Moosa, Lojehi Thuthu Didi, and Ibrahim Hussain (Ghazee). Gulhee Madharusa was established on May 26, 1992, under the leadership of Ahmed Hussain. Initially staffed by six teachers, the school also introduced English as a subject from Grades 1 to 7. On August 1, 2005, Gulhee Madharusa was renamed “Gulhee School” and became a government institution under the Ministry of Education. At that time, there were 20 teachers, and secondary education began in 2006, with the school participating in its first international examination in 2008.
