"Maktab-ul-Hidaya,"" established on June 23, 1969, with around 180 pupils and two classes (Board Alhaa Classes 1 and 2), laid the foundation for Makunudhoo's educational system. At that time, ""Board Class 2"" represented the highest level of education on the island. The school saw significant developments after the implementation of the National Curriculum and the hiring of a primary teacher in 1981. A sixth grade was introduced in 1994, marking the start of middle school education, followed by the addition of a secondary commerce stream in 2004. Students participated in the Cambridge O’Level and SSC exams for the first time in 2006. In 2014, A’Level classes were launched, but there were insufficient students to continue them in 2015 and 2016. Instead, the school introduced the B.Tech stream and the ""Dhasvaaru"" curriculum in 2015, implementing the new national curriculum for Key Stage 1 (Grades 1-3) that same year, and for Key Stage 2 (Grades 4-6) in 2016. Key Stage 3 was introduced in 2017 and 2018. Now, Makunudhoo School has 366 students and 48 staff members, offering a range of educational programs from the foundation stage to lower secondary (Grade 10). This year, the school has also started supporting students with special needs, aided by a qualified special education teacher. The curriculum includes a B-Tech stream as well as a combined stream covering subjects like Islam, Dhivehi, English, Mathematics, Quran, Biology, Chemistry, Business Studies, and Accounting.
