Nellaidhoo School was established in 1943 as ‘Maqthab,’ initially constructed from wood and thatch, focusing on subjects like Quran, Dheeniyyaath, and Thaana liyun. Despite facing challenges, the school continued operating until June 26, 1980, when it registered as ‘Nellaidhoo Maqthab’ with the Ministry of Education. It was renamed ‘Nellaidhoo Madharusaa’ on January 23, 1995, and recognized as a primary and middle school. The community managed the school until August 1, 2005, when it became a government institution known as ‘Nellaidhoo School.’ The introduction of Grade 8 marked its transition to a secondary school. In 2007, students participated in GCE O’Level examinations for the first time, and by 2012, the school achieved a 60% pass rate. This improvement led to the introduction of Grade 11, allowing for higher secondary education starting June 16, 2013.
