The foundation stone for the current building was laid on July 6, 1987, and it was officially opened on July 7, 1993. The school was originally registered as ""Maktab-ul-Manar"" on December 6, 1975, and has undergone several name changes over the years.On November 10, 1979, the school was renamed “Kaaf Atoll Madharusa” by President Maumoon Abdul Qayyum. After six years under that name, it became Maafushi Madharusa in January 1986. Since starting the O'Level Examination on July 28, 2004, the school has been known as Maafushi School and operates as a government institution. Maafushi School provides education from the foundation stage through Grade 12 and offers three academic streams: business, science, and BTEC.
