The Maldives has participated in the annual meeting of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for the Asia-Pacific, Europe and Central Asia (ECA), and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions.
Aishath Hassan, the focal point appointed by the Maldives to the GPE, represented the Maldives and the Ministry of Education at this meeting, which took place from May 19 to 21 in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
Discussions were held at this meeting regarding the challenges in providing education to children in various countries around the world. Additionally, important consultations were conducted on financing the education sector and building sustainable education systems. A total of 36 partner countries of the GPE participated in this meeting.
The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is one of the largest international funds that provides free aid to improve the education systems of developing countries. As such, with a 9.5 million US dollar aid from GPE, the Ministry of Education has launched a new project called "Thaiba" on August 22, 2024, to bring a revolutionary positive change to the Maldivian education system.
