As part of the national teacher training program, a diploma course has been announced to train teachers for students with special needs.
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu officially inaugurated the auditorium at the Islamic University in Malé.
The minister stated, "The purpose of the diploma course is to address the shortage of teachers capable of teaching students with special needs across the country, as these children can only be effectively taught by trained teachers who are fully equipped with the necessary styles, skills, and knowledge."
The minister also emphasized that this course will produce many teachers and professionals who will begin their teaching careers with a one-year diploma, ultimately benefiting both the students and the country.
The minister stated that students will receive an allowance of MVR 1,500 for course fees and pocket money, and encouraged as many students as possible to enroll in the course.
While outlining the courses, the education minister DR. Ismail Shafeeu indicated that they should be tailored to align with the national curriculum. urged universities to support this initiative.
