The Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, today inspected the ongoing progress of Shaheed Ali School, which is being constructed to address space constraints faced by students residing in Hulhumalé.
During the visit to the construction site this afternoon, the Minister was briefed on the latest progress of the project. He also held discussions with the Police and relevant authorities regarding the measures required to ensure road safety and security for students and parents upon the commencement of academic activities at the school.
Under the special priority accorded to the education sector by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and with the objective of making the current administration’s first building a facility dedicated to education, the foundation stone for the school was laid on December 23, 2023. The school is scheduled to officially open on January 27, 2026, in line with the commencement of the 2026 academic year.
With the opening of the school, a significant number of students residing in Hulhumalé will have access to educational facilities within their residential area, providing added convenience for both students and parents.
Constructed in Hulhumalé Phase II to address space constraints in schools within the Malé region, the school will include 54 air-conditioned classrooms, a multipurpose hall, modern facilities, and a turf ground.
The school, which will have the capacity to accommodate approximately 1,900 students, is being constructed by Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) under a contractor financing model.
