ICESCO ToT on Climate Smart and Greening Education Successfully Concludes!

The "ISESCO-Maldives Training of Trainers Workshop on Climate-Smart and Greening Education in Maldivian Schools" successfully concluded today. Held at CHSE-Male’, the workshop saw the participation of over 70 teachers from various schools across the Maldives.
Organized jointly by the National Institute of Education (NIE) and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of local educators in implementing the green education curriculum.
Participants were introduced to Fehi Madharusa, exploring its activities and how to integrate climate change topics into lessons. They also identified existing school-wide activities aligned with Fehi Madharusa’s principles. A special session on ISESCO's Greening Education Framework was conducted by Mr. Wagas Nasir Afridi, an education expert at ISESCO. In addition, representatives from Cambridge, Soneva Namoona, and Maldives Resilient Reefs shared their efforts in raising environmental awareness.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the workshop, State Minister Dr. Ahmed Mohammed urged everyone work together as one team to mainstream and integrate Green Education concepts in our teaching and learning and every education practice in our school environment and beyond. 
Meanwhile, Dr. Haddy Jatau Sey, ISESCO's Education Sector Head, emphasized that, given the impacts of climate change in the Maldives, this teacher training on greening education is essential for embedding climate resilience into classroom teaching."
The workshop concluded with participants developing an action plan to implement Fehi Madharusa in schools. The newly trained trainers will return to their respective schools to conduct further training, ensuring the sustainability of green education practices across the nation.
