The new government school currently under construction in Phase 2 of Hulhumalé has been officially named Shaheed Ali School by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
This project forms part of the government’s broader initiative to expand educational infrastructure and alleviate space constraints faced by schools in the growing Hulhumalé region. The foundation stone was ceremonially laid by President Dr. Muizzu on 23 December 2023, marking the school as the first structural development undertaken by the current administration.
Once completed, the school will provide students with the opportunity to attend classes closer to their homes.
The school is named in honor of Sultan Ali VI (Ali Rasgefaanu) who ruled Maldives from 1557 to 1558 AD. Remembered as a figure of faith, patriotism, and courage, Ali Rasgefaanu is revered in Maldivian history for his resistance against Portuguese invaders and his ultimate sacrifice for the nation. His ultimate sacrifice for the sovereignty of the nation stands as a lasting testament to his courage and dedication to the Maldivian people.
Designed to serve up to 1,500 students, Shaheed Ali School will feature 54 air-conditioned classrooms, a multipurpose hall, state-of-the-art facilities, and a turf field—reflecting the government’s commitment to providing high-quality, modern education in a rapidly developing community.
