Minister of State for Education Dr. Ahmed Mohamed participated in the side event “Transforming Tomorrow Today: Ministerial Dialogue on the Skills Needed for a Sustainable Future” held during the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The high-level dialogue brought together education ministers and policymakers from around the world to explore how education systems can reimagine the skills required for inclusive and sustainable futures. Discussions focused on adapting education to the demands of the green and digital transitions, while addressing the broader social challenges of the present era.

Participants emphasized the importance of an integrated approach to skills development, ensuring that education not only responds to evolving labour market needs but also anticipates future demands. The dialogue further highlighted the need to nurture a full range of knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes essential for building peaceful, just, and sustainable societies, in alignment with the 2023 UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development.

The session also examined ways to position skills development in the post-2030 development agenda, promote gender equality, and uphold the rights of refugees and displaced learners. Participants discussed strengthening international cooperation to enhance the recognition of skills, foster learner mobility, and expand inclusive lifelong learning opportunities.

Through this dialogue, UNESCO and its member states reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a comprehensive global skills agenda; one that empowers every learner to acquire the competencies needed to shape a more equitable, sustainable, and peaceful future.
