Maldives Participates in UNESCO’s 43rd General Conference

The Maldives is taking part in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, which brings together representatives from all 194 member states, as well as scholars, international organizations, and cultural figures.

This year’s conference is being held at the Silk Road Samarkand Conference Centre in Uzbekistan’s historic city of Samarkand, from October 30 to November 13, 2025. Representing the Maldives are State Minister Dr. Ahmed Mohamed, Deputy Minister Tharif Mohamed, and Secretary-General of the UNESCO Maldives National Commission and Education Development Professional, Shinaz Moosa.

Marking a significant milestone, this is the first time in 40 years that the General Conference is being held outside UNESCO’s Paris headquarters, making it a historic moment for international cooperation and cultural diplomacy.

During the conference, delegates will set UNESCO’s strategic direction, address global challenges, and adopt policiesthat shape the future of education, culture, and science worldwide. The Samarkand meeting will feature plenary sessions, commission discussions, and high-level debates, alongside a series of side events dedicated to advancing UNESCO’s global mission.
